How we do it:Caribbean Villa

After falling in love with this little known Caribbean island our client purchased a somewhat tired 10 year old villa as a holiday home. The property was to be extended, totally refurbished including the pool and outdoor areas and a new self-contained pool house and separate games room built from scratch.

  • Client Brief

Our brief was to design all internal and external spaces and source, ship and install all items required. By discussing ideas with the client we established that the style was to be informal, a contemporary classic design that could combine English furniture with Caribbean architectural detail.

Design Concept

Following a visit to the island, meetings and discussion with the client we explore the design concept using plans and sketches to illustrate layout options, 3D models to bring to life spatial planning ideas and materials and finishes are introduced to assess the client's likes and dislikes.

Design Development

Moving forward from concept design we enter design development where further drawings are produced for discussion and ultimately detailed design drawings are issued and schemes and finishes finalised.

Working within our budget we source, cost and administer the orders for the hundreds of items required to be bought and in this particular project packed, shipped and passed through customs.

  • Start to Finish: - Procurement 1/1
  • This included hundreds of metres of tiles, appliances for 3 kitchens, sanitary ware for six bathrooms all soft furnishings, outdoor furniture and household goods. All down to the last teaspoon. Oh yes, not forgetting the client's pride and joy - one antique billiard table.

During the construction phase we keep in close contact with the project manager on site, the architect, lighting and landscape designers to ensure all details are taken care of and any necessary changes or adaptations can be carried out smoothly and followed through and implemented across all disciplines.

Two further trips to the island for the design team are called for to unpack and style the Villa, shipping additional items in between trips.

Two years from first meeting the client and the Villa is completed. We are now working on his London home. To be continued…
